Discover Windjana and the Tunnel

Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) was gazetted as a national park in November 1971 because of the need to protect and preserve its natural attractions and to offer facilities to its many visitors.

The park covers over 2000 hectares including Lilimillura Police Station Ruins and is situated 145 kilometres east of Derby and 150 kilometres north west of Fitzroy Crossing.

The main attraction of Bandilngan Gorge is the scenic gorge carved by the Lennard River, through the Napier Range, which exposes the ancient Devonian reef system, regarded by geologists as a classic feature of world geology.

A 7 km return walk takes you along the full length of the gorge and back. It runs along the course of the Lennard River, which becomes a series of pools in the dry season. It allows you a close look at the gorges resident fruit bats, corellas and freshwater crocodiles.

Facilities: Camping (toilets and water).

At Tunnel Creek you will walk through the naturally formed 750 metre long tunnel. During the walk, you will negotiate pools of water which can be up to knee deep. Please bring a Flashlight with you if you have one and it is recommended that you take your camera (enclosed in a suitable waterproof bag). However, some flashlights will be provided by the tour, so don’t worry too much if you forget.

The tour bus leaves from the Derby Visitor Center starting from 8am and will begin collecting passengers along the route. You will be picked up from your accommodation according to your location on the route.

This full day tour includes a hosted 390km road trip to the park, and a guided walk through the gorge and tunnel creek. You will be provided with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, all of which is included in the price of the tour.

Hope to see you there!
