JULY 12 | 2019
The Mowanjum Festival is Western Australia's largest traditional Aboriginal performance event and is now in its ninteenth consecutive year. Mowanjum Arts and Cultural Centre invites you to experience the unique art and culture of the Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunambal people at this special one-night celebration. The 2019 Mowanjum Festival acknowledges the vibrant cultures of Aboriginal people across Australia.
The festival is open to the general public from 2pm, with a variety of cultural workshops including didgeridoo playing, boab nut carving and ochre painting conducted in a family friendly environment.
The festival is proud to announce dancers from Balgo (located on the northern tip of the Gibson Desert) will be the guest performers at this year's event. A new addition to this year's festival will be traditional bush medicine workshops conducted by the 'Yiriman Project', which will provide an opportunity for guests to learn from Indigenous practitioners about ancient healing techniques.
Mowanjum Art and Cultural Centre is located on the Gibb River Road 12 kilometers from Derby.
Mowanjum Festival attracts thousands of people to Derby annually, with visitors from all over Australia. Tickets are available at the gate. Come with the whole family for an evening of culture and the arts. Bring a camping chair or a blanket. Hot food, bush tucker & drinks available.
