Consider yourself a fine judge of racing flesh? Relish the idea of owning a stake in a winner? Handle the pressure of a close race? You may consider an afternoon well spent in your best thongs on the sprawling lawns at the Mary Island Fishing Club. Rub shoulders with the mud crab catching elite, judge for yourself some of the single strain pedigree mud crabs in the world, give yourself a chance spending time in the winners circle then sit down and “feast on the field”. Enjoy mud crab racing flesh washed down with some of the coldest beer in the Kimberley.

Time: Crabs into the Club by 2.30pm Racing starts at 4.00pm

Cost: Free entry. $10 will buy you a racing crab and also give you a delicious meal of crab and salad at the end of the day.

Derby Races (Madhatters)

Derby hosts two race meetings each year. The first race meeting is “Madhatters Day”. A great event to show off the innovative hat designs that Derby race followers create.

Meetings have great racing, TAB and bookmaker facilities, entertainment and of course that game of chance “Two Up”.

Gates open at 11am, with the first race at 1.30pm. Entry fees apply.

The Mowanjum Community, situated 12kms out of Derby on the Gibb River Road, warmly invites you to their annual Festival on Thursday 12th July.   Highlights of the night will include traditional corroberees from Mowanjum and Gibb River Road communities, as well as those from the Fitzroy Valley, One Arm Point and others.  This is the largest traditional Aboriginal corroboree in WA that is open to the general public.
